Kimberly Cloutier Green is the ninth Poet Laureate of Portsmouth, New Hampshire. She has brought the joy of performing poetry to the Kittery community by coordinating the quarterly Rice Pudding Poetry series.

6:00 PMReadME Summer Book Club

Location:
Contact:
Description:

Our summer reading club continues with August's book, Settled in the Wild: Notes from the Edge of Town by Susan Hand Slatterly.

The titles for this year's reading challenge were selected for the Maine Humanities Council by beloved Maine mystery writer Paul Doiron. Why does he love this selection of slice-of-life essays?

"Susan Hand Shetterly’s collection of lyrical short essays, Settled in the Wild: Notes from the Edge of Town, is a book intended for all of us. It’s about watching deer drift through the field at dusk and about leaving the window open in April to hear spring arrive with the first piping of the peepers. It’s about the familiar, the secret, and the strange, written by an artist whose gift it is to help us see our shared environment as we’ve never seen it before.”

Whether you're a townie or a transplant, everyone is invited to join in! Copies are available at the Taylor desk and in ebook form on one of the library's circulating Nooks.
